Who we are
Founder David C. Hoffman has a Ph.D. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, several years of postdoctoral research experience, and a law degree from Cornell Law School. He is admitted to the California State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar (inactive), the Massachusetts State Bar (inactive), and is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He also has a passion for cultural exploration and has chosen to share some photos from his recent travels instead of using stock images from the internet.
His legal experience includes patent drafting and prosecution in the US and key commercial jurisdictions worldwide (e.g., Europe, China, Japan, Australia, Canada), non-infringement and invalidity opinions, prior art and patent searching, negotiation of a wide range of common commercial contracts including confidentiality or nondisclosure agreements, materials transfer agreements, master service agreements, academic licenses, consulting agreements, clinical trial agreements, CRADAs, and many others, as well as due diligence in support of venture fundraising and acquisitions, preparing private companies for IPO, pre-litigation counseling, and patent infringement litigation in both federal District Court and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He also has extensive experience negotiating with academic and governmental technology transfer offices in the US, UK, and Germany.
